The Student Alumni Connection (SAC) is a student program of the Houston
Alumni Organization (HAO), and its mission is to promote spirit, cultivate pride
and build tradition. SAC is a student organization dedicated to enhancing the
connection between students – past, present and future. The goal is to provide
an opportunity for the SAC board members to achieve personal excellence
through leadership opportunities, networking channels, and career development.
This organization also works to create a University that fosters a sense of
community and instills in its students a lifelong commitment to their alma mater.
SAC is open to any current UH student for $15 per year or $45 for four years,
a $15 savings if the student joins as a freshman. As an SAC member, any UH
student has the opportunity to participate in SAC activities, great networking
opportunities, and build new friendships. HAO and SAC recruit student members
throughout the year, with an emphasis during freshman orientation, The Cat’s
Back (a series of back to school events) and various campus-wide membership
drives.
A great networking program for your group to be involved with is Dinner for
10 Cougars. The idea behind the Dinner for 10 Cougars program is to build and
strengthen the UH community by creating an informal environment for UH
alumni to make connections with students. Involvement with SAC gives students
an opportunity for internships, job placements, and long-lasting friendships and
mentoring.
In 2007, the SAC board, with the help of its parent organization HAO has created
an innovative program within the organization called the “Twenty-Seven.” The
number 27 signifies the year that the University was founded. The concept
consists of 27 board members who are high-profile, high-energy students who
are committed to extraordinary excellence through service to the University.
The “Twenty-Seven” serve as hosts and hostesses for Student Alumni and
HAO signature events. Through this new entity, we are enhancing activities
and awareness for HAO members and students.
OFFICIAL RING CEREMONIES AND THE UH CLASS RING
The UH class ring is a symbol of your academic success at this University.
Students who have completed 70 hours or more and are in good standing with
the University are eligible to purchase their ring. The Official UH class ring will
serve as a lifelong connection to the University of Houston. Rings can be
viewed and purchased at the Athletics/Alumni Center (Rm 201).
Each spring and fall semester, the University of Houston Alumni Association hosts the
Official Ring Ceremony. Eligible students are invited for a personal presentation
of the ring by a University official. Following the ceremony, HAO also hosts a
reception for ring recipients and their families and friends. |
